Edgy lipstick shades have become extremely popular over the last year and a half. More of us are stepping outside of our normal "safe" lip shades and reaching for more daring shades of blue, green, grey, black and silver.
My Tips on How to Wear an Unconventional Lipstick Shade:
- Ensure that your skin look its best as it WILL get noticed. Wearing strong edgy shades on the lips automatically draws attention to the face so creating a flawless canvas is very important. Exfoliate (if needed), moisturize, prime and make sure that your foundation and concealer is blended well.
- Let your lips be the star of the show! Tone down the rest of your makeup, minimal makeup is the perfect formula for rocking edgy lips. My preference is to wear a nude eye with heavy mascara or eyeliner.
- For pastel lipstick shades, keep your cheeks extremely neutral with a simple wash of colour or a soft bronzer and highlighter.
- Exfoliate and moisturize your lips before applying your lipstick and be sure to use a lip liner to define and create a sharp finish.

Hi dear Keisha! The most unconventional lipstick I use to wear is dark violet...if it can be classified unconventional! But for example I've never tried greens, grays.. it is an interesting article this one. Lastly I've increased a lot the attention on my skin care, as you said a good base is always a good starting!

These are some great tips! I don't normally wear unconventional lipstick. The most edgy I go with is a dark brown, deep purple, or bright purple.

You make a very good point about making sure your skin is flawless before opting for a bold shade! I actually wore a magenta/hot pink today for the first time as my skin has been on its best behaviour - totally loved wearing such a loud colour! This forest green is so striking Keisha, wow!
