Hello Gals!
With Holiday Party Season at our door steps, most of us will be glamming up for our events. We will apply that gorgeous shade of lipstick, add some sparkle to our eyes, party like there is no tomorrow and then come home and fall asleep in our makeup.
Trust me, as much as I shouldn't admit this, I am the worst offender when it comes to this scenario. When I have been out till late, my laziness takes over my better judgement even though I know full well the repercussions of my actions....I know I'm not alone.
Here are just a few of the reasons why falling a sleep in your makeup is a huge no no:
Here are just a few of the reasons why falling a sleep in your makeup is a huge no no:
- It hinders the skins ability to rejuvenate
- Clogs pores
- Increases breakouts
- Premature aging
- Dehydrates the skin
- Dry chapped lips
Double up on the Cleansing:
- First use a cleansing oil to break up and dissolve any dirt and waterproof makeup. If you don't have a cleansing oil, olive or almond oil work just as well.
- Follow with a gentle foaming cleanser to ensure that all traces of the oil cleanser and makeup have been removed.
Exfoliate:
- Exfoliation will improve the skins texture by gently sloughing away dead skin cells which also allows better absorption of your products eg.masks moisturizers etc.
- Don't forget about the lips! Exfoliate to remove any dry patches and lipstick stains.
Apply a Clay Mask:
- Apply a clay mask to draw impurities from the skin. Clay masks reach deep into the pores to remove dirt, oil and any residual makeup, they are also loaded with vitamins and skin loving nutrients which is a perfect recipe to aid the skin in its’ recuperation.
Moisturize:
- Moisturize your skin with a moisturizing oil, serum or cream that is suited to your skin type.
Breathe:
- Let your skin breathe and recuperate. If possible, do not apply any makeup for the day to give your skin a much needed break.

I've been pretty good in removing my makeup and treating my skin daily. How many times a week are you suppose to use the mask?
ReplyDeleteHi Glenda! You should apply a mask at least once a week. I also included a printable list of my fav clay mask so you could also have that as a guide for choosing a mask :) Thanks so much for reading!

Such good ideas! I love letting my skin breathe whenever I can and using scrubs and cleansers only occasionally, as too much can irritate my skin! :D xx

I did this A LOT in my early 20s especially after a night out partying. LOL! I am proud to say that I no longer sleep with my makeup on...or haven't had the opportunity to do so anymore. LOL!

Excellent post Keisha! I love cleansing oils. They removed everything. Still have to find a good exfoliator for my dry/sensitive skin.

Aren't they amazing...they remove every trace of makeup! A good exfoliater for senstive skin is by Simple Skincare. The particles are really fine so they are not harsh on the skin...and its not expensive. Thanks for reading Kim!

There have been times where I just remove the makeup with a remover wipe and just go sleep because I'm so tired! It is good to give your face a break from makeup a couple times a week. Great post!!
ReplyDeleteI really try to never fall asleep with my makeup on, my skin is so finicky as is, I don't even want to see what it would be like if I started napping with a full face on!
