Common Blush Mistakes

Hello Gals!

Blush is such a wonderful product. In one swipe it can easily turn the most sallow of complexions into a healthy glowing one and when it is applied correctly it can create a beautifully balanced finish to your overall makeup look.  However, when applied incorrectly it can have the opposite effect which can leave you looking less than flawless.

So today, I thought it would be helpful to share with you a few common blush mistakes and how to correct them.
 

Common Blush Mistakes

Not Blending

Hmmm...this blending thing keeps cropping up. Blending is super important in every aspect of makeup application, including blush application. Not blending or not blending enough can leave your blush looking chunky and very unnatural.
Once you have applied your blush, it shouldn't be obvious where it starts and where it ends, the transition should be seamless. 

My tip: To achieve this, after you have applied your blush, take a makeup sponge and gently buff away any harsh edges.

Applying Too Much 

Believe it or not, heavy handed blush application is still a common mistake. Your end result shouldn't look as though you have taken makeup advice from a clown.

My tip: Tap the excess product from your brush before applying to your cheeks. I also find applying your blush last allows for better judgment on just how much colour needs to be applied to successfully complete your look.



Placement

How many of us were told to smile then apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks? In my opinion, this really should never be done because when you smile the apples of your cheeks move upwards and when you finish smiling, they return to their natural place on your face, so your blush ends up being too close your mouth giving your face a sagging appearance.
 
My tip: When applying your blush, apply along the middle of the cheekbones rather than on the apples, and always use the two finger rule: Place two fingers next to the nose and mouth...that's where your blush should begin.

Blush and Lipstick/Lip Gloss Clash

Unless you are doing a high fashioned/editorial photo shoot,  this never looks polished or pretty, it just ends up  looking a hot mess.

My tip: When selecting a blush to apply, make sure that the shade is in the same colour family as your lipstick/ lip gloss.
