Hello Gals!
If there is one eye makeup product that I simply cannot live without as a makeup artist, it is definitely black eyeliners. Black eyeliners are the key players in adding drama and definition to the eyes taking the simplest of eye makeup looks and transforming them into a striking statement.
My criteria for selecting a black eyeliner is really quite simple; it has to be super pigmented, easy to apply and long lasting.
If you ventured inside my pro-kit you will surprisingly find only 4 black eyeliners, however these liners fit my specific criteria to a tee, and each provide a different effect and finish.
Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner "Blackest Black" This gel liner has been a staple in my kit for years. It is a creamy gel based liner that provides saturated pigmentation and applies with a rich creamy texture which makes it extremely easy to blend.
I absolutely love the various effects that I can achieve with this one pot; I can use it as an eyeliner, or as a base on the lids to create dramatic smokey eyes, or I can smudge into the outer corner of the crease for a smudged wing effect.

Prism Long Wear Eyeliner Pen "Black": Felt tip liner pens have been a favourite of mine for a while as they do such a wonderful job of creating graphic looks as well as giving ultimate control during application.
The formula of the Prism Long Wear liner is super pigmented and is of a liquid inky consistency which flows easily and smoothly through the tip resulting in even application. The tip of this pen is quite functional as I can lay it on its side during application for thicker intense lines or apply right from the tip to create sleek fine lines. Another fab thing about this liner is the finish, it has as soft dewy sheen once it sets.

Maybelline (upper lash line), Prism lower lash line (outer and inner points), L'oreal (middle lower lash line) |
Lime Crime Liquid Liner "Quill"- Another long time favorite of mine. This liquid liner has been a star in my kit for years as I LOVE the glossy finish! The glossiness of this liner adds such a glam finish to my makeup looks, and the pigmentation is on point. The combination of the fine tipped brush and the saturated inky formula is an absolute dream as it allows the product to be swiped across the lash line with ease, without tugging or skipping.
Lime Crime "Quill" |
L'oreal Silkissime "Black": The newest addition to my black eyeliner arsenal! This pencil has a remarkably creamy texture that glides on with ease, which means absolutely no tugging during application. The pigmentation and depth of blackness achieved is nothing short of amazing. For those reasons this is now my go to eyeliner for tight lining the eyes.
The only thing that you do need to keep in mind when applying the L'oreal Silkissime is that you need to work super quick if your are planning on smudging it for a smokey look or if you have made a mistake as the formula sets rather quickly, making smudging and corrections a little tricky.

Felt tip liner pens are my favourite, I find them easier to work with than any other kind of eyeliner. I am currently using the Essence liquid liner which is good for everyday use. The Maybelline one looks amazing!
