Getting the most out of my makeup is essential and by making a product versatile is a fantastic way for me to get the most out of it.
One of my favourite product's to transform is lipstick. Not only is it quick and easy, it is a great item to re-purpose if you happen to be on a "No Buy" because even though you may not have brought a new lipstick, it feels as though you are applying a brand new lippie each time that you apply it with a different finish.
Today, I am going to give you a few tips on how to transform one lipstick formula into three different finishes. The star of this transformation is Prism cream finish lipstick in "I Pink I'm In Love" however, you can use any lipstick from your collection.
Regular Finish
Nothing fancy is required for wearing a lipstick in its' original formula, other than prepping the lips with balm.
- Apply your lip balm and blot your lips.
- Next apply your lip liner.
- Now your lips are prepped and ready for your lipstick. Apply a generous amount of lipstick straight from the tube.
Glossy Finish
The glossy effect is a finish that really plays up the original lipstick shade. Applying a clear gloss on top of your lipstick is quite the game changer as it adds a beautiful intense shine that takes your lipstick to a whole new level of glam.
- Apply your lipstick as normal.
- Next take a lip brush and add a layer or two of clear gloss, taking care to blend out to the outer perimeter of your lips.
Matte Finish
Any lipstick in your makeup collection can be transformed into a very on trend matte finish. This can easily be done with translucent powder and a tissue. The advantages of this method is that you will still get all the moisturizing benefits of your lipstick and that by using a tissue you will achieve an even distribution of powder which means no clumping.
- Apply your lipstick as normal
- Next place a tissue on your lips and dab on some translucent powder with a fluffy brush. This will effectively remove the shine from your lipstick.
- Peel away the tissue to reveal gorgeous matte lips.

Oooo! This is a fabulous post, Keisha! I've only repurposed bronzer as eyeshadow but never tried any of these tips with my lipstick! Time to experiment!

I have used bronzer as a shadow also and it gives such a nice glow. Be sure to let me know how this works out for you :)

These comparison pics are fabulous Keisha! I want to try a matte look but usually end up doing the glossy one because my lips dry out so fast. I wish spring would come soon and take all these harsh winter winds away.
ReplyDeleteI'm wishing spring/summer to hurry along as well...I hate cold weather and dry lips lol. The next time that you give a matte lip a whirl, try moisturizing really well first, that may help :)

Thanks for sharing this Keisha, didn't know I could transform my regular lipstick to matte. I'll have to try that soon.
